Five Films I Plan to Watch for 100 Horror Movies in 92 Days 2025

We are in single digits, folks! The 100 Horror Movies in 92 Days 2025 challenge is almost here! With that in mind, I thought it would be fun to share 5 movies that I plan to watch during the challenge. Also, as a bonus, I’ll also be sharing 5 films that have been released recently, that I feel are worth checking out!

5 Films I Plan to Watch During the 100 Horror Movies in 92 Days 2025 Challenge

  • Weapons When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance. While I wasn’t a huge fan of Barbarian, I’m definitely intrigued by this one. Not to mention there seems to be a kitchen scene, so maybe we’ll get some gastro horror.CLOWN IN A CORNFIELD Poster
  • Clown in a Cornfield Quinn and her father have just moved to the quiet town of Kettle Springs, hoping for a fresh start. Instead, she discovers a fractured community that has fallen on hard times after the treasured Baypen Corn Syrup Factory burned down. As the locals bicker amongst themselves and tensions boil over, a sinister, grinning figure emerges from the cornfields to cleanse the town of its burdens, one bloody victim at a time. I’m a bit late to the party on this one, but I’m hoping there is a little bit of adjacency to gastro horror, even if it is scant. If you are reading this before 8/8, we will be hosting a watch party on the challenge’s Discord server.
  • The Conjuring: Last Rites Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren take on one last terrifying case involving mysterious entities they must confront. As I mentioned in another article, I’m a sucker for the films of The Conjuring Universe. They could keep making these films forever, and I’d still go see them.
  • Grapes of Death A young woman discovers that the pesticide being sprayed on vineyards is turning people into murderous lunatics. This is an older pick, but Jean Rollins is a large blind spot for me, plus this is gastro horror!
  • Abbott and Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein Baggage handlers Bud and Lou accidentally stumble upon Frankenstein’s Monster, Dracula, and the Wolf Man. Admittedly, the Abbott and Costello horror comedies from Universal are another blind spot that I hope to fix this year so this is the one I’ll be starting with!

5 Films I Recommend You Watch During the 100 Horror Movies in 92 Days 2025 Challenge

  • Marshmallow At a secluded summer camp, timid and introverted 12-year-old Morgan is thrust into a waking nightmare when a once-fabled campfire tale becomes real. As a mysterious figure descends upon the camp, Morgan and his newfound friends must embark on a treacherous journey and uncover a sinister reality buried beneath the surface. This one was really unexpected for me and I enjoyed it quite a bit! It’s definitely a great one for August.
  • Marshmallow PosterFresh Frustrated by scrolling dating apps only to end up on lame, tedious dates, Noa takes a chance by giving her number to the awkwardly charming Steve after a produce-section meet-cute at the grocery store. This isn’t a new release, but I think it’s vastly underrated and underseen. I love everything about this movie.
  • Night of the Eagle aka Burn Witch Burn A skeptical college professor discovers that his wife has been practicing magic for years. Like the learned, rational fellow he is, he forces her to destroy all her magical charms and protective devices, and stop that foolishness. He isn’t put off by her insistence that his professional rivals are working magic against him, and her protections are necessary to his career and life. I recently just saw this for the first time, and it’s a great bit of 1960s atmospheric horror. I’d pair it with The City of the Dead for a witchy 60s double feature.
  • Hot Spring Shark Attack In a small hot spring town in Japan, a ferocious ancient shark reawakens and begins terrorizing the local hot spring facilities. As the threat escalates, the townspeople band together to protect their beloved town from the menacing predator, leading to a fierce and thrilling battle. This movie is an absolute blast and recently hit VOD (My full review can be found here). I highly recommend this one!
  • Dinner with Leatherface A look at poet, author, filmmaker, actor, and horror icon Gunnar Hansen—the original Leatherface in the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Including perspectives from friends, colleagues, filmmakers, actors, and anyone else who knew one of the nicest people affiliated with the horror genre. Horror docs are allowed during the challenge so as a change of pace, I recommend this one. I absolutely adored and will warn you to have tissues at the ready.
