100 Horror Movies in 92 Days 2025- Week 1 Highlights

The Undertaker and His Pals

Week 1 of the 100 Horror Movies in 92 Days 2025 Challenge is in the books! In past years, I would create a feed on Twitter/X of highlights, but since I’m no longer active there and trying to build up my site activity, I thought it would be fun to post them here! For the duration of the challenge, I will pick 3 to 5 films I think are worth checking out from what I watched that week.

Here are my 100 Horror Movies in 92 Days 2025- Week 1 picks:

  • The Undertaker and His Pals An undertaker befriends a pair of motorcycle-riding, knife-wielding, psycho restaurant owners who kill people for body parts to use in their blue-plate daily specials. This goofy bit of gastro horror is one of the earliest restaurant horror movies. It was inspired in part by Herschell Gordon Lewis’ Blood Feast’s style. It’s not a perfect film, but it’s punny and a pretty fun time. It also has the benefit of being 60ish minutes long!
  • The Pied Piper A darkly brilliant stop-motion adaptation of The Pied Piper of Hamelin about a plague of rats that punish townsfolk corrupted by greed. One of Czechoslovakia’s most ambitious animation projects of the 1980s, notable for its unusual dark art direction, innovative animation techniques, and use of a fictitious language. I really dug the aesthetic of this one, and given its short runtime, it’s a great watch for the challenge.
  • Weapons When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance. As I mentioned in my review, I enjoyed this one quite a bit, and the less you know going in, the better!
  • The Deeper You Dig 14-year-old Echo and her mother Ivy, a tarot card reader, live a quiet life in a rural area. When reclusive Kurt moves down the road to restore an abandoned farmhouse, an accident leads to Echo’s murder, and suddenly three lives 100 Horror Movies in 92 Days 2025 The Deeper You Digcollide in mysterious and wicked ways. Kurt assumes he can hide his secret under the ground. But Echo burrows into his head until he can feel her in his bones. As she haunts his every move, trying to reach her mother from beyond, Ivy must dig deep to see the signs and prove that love won’t stay buried. I’m a huge fan of The Adams Family and their filmography, so it comes as no surprise that I LOVED this movie. I recommend watching it and The Hatred back to back. If you’re interested, Toby and John were on Final Girls Feast to discuss their film Hellbender. You can listen here.
  • Nightmares A collection of short stories. In one, a woman who leaves her house late at night to drive to the store while a killer is loose encounters some problems. In the second, an arcade whiz kid’s obsession with a game leads to deadly consequences. In the third, a small town priest loses his faith and decides to leave town, but in the desert is stalked by a mysterious black pick-up truck. In the final story, a family’s problem with a rat is larger than they think. This anthology was on my watchlist for a hot minute, and I randomly stumbled across it while at Zia Records perusing through their newly acquired used Blu-rays. My husband and I picked it up along with Nightmare and made an odd Nightmare double feature. Sadly, the latter wasn’t our jam, but we had a good time with this fun little anthology.

Hopefully, this gives you a few new films to add to your watchlist! Be sure to follow along with my list on Letterboxd and join the challenge’s Discord server. We are doing weekly watch parties, giveaways, and more! What were your Week 1 favorites? What are your plans for Week 2? Let me know in the comments below! Happy watching!
