August is one of my all-time favorite months! Since 2020, I’ve hosted the 100 Horror Movies in 92 Days Challenge, and that means that scary season starts early for me! Luckily, this August, there are a ton of gastro horror releases hitting streaming, several of which I haven’t seen! You could say I’m eating well this upcoming month!
August 1st
- Final Destination Bloodlines– Plagued by a violent, recurring nightmare, college student Stefanie heads home to track down the one person who might be able to break the cycle and save her family from the grisly demise that inevitably awaits them all. (HBO Max)
- Killer Klowns from Outer Space– Aliens disguised as clowns crash land on Earth in a rural town to capture unsuspecting victims in cotton candy cocoons for later consumption. (Prime Video)
- Slice– In a spooky small town, when a slew of pizza delivery boys are slain on the job, two daring survivors set out to catch the culprits behind the cryptic crime spree. (Kanopy, Tubi)
- Texas Chainsaw 3D– A young woman learns that she has inherited a Texas estate from her deceased grandmother. After embarking on a road trip with friends to uncover her roots, she finds she is the sole owner of a lavish, isolated Victorian mansion. But her newfound wealth comes at a price as she stumbles upon a horror that awaits her in the mansion’s dank cellars. (Peacock)
- The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2– A radio host is victimized by the cannibal family as a former Texas marshal hunts them. (Prime Video)
August 8th
- Clown in a Cornfield– Quinn and her father have just moved to the quiet town of Kettle Springs hoping for a fresh start. Instead, she discovers a fractured community that has fallen on hard times after the treasured Baypen Corn Syrup Factory burned down. As the locals bicker amongst themselves and tensions boil over, a sinister, grinning figure emerges from the cornfields to cleanse the town of its burdens, one bloody victim at a time. (Shudder)
August 15th
- Beware: Children at Play– Parents are in a panic as their children mysteriously disappear. Little do they know that the only thing worse than their children disappearing would be them coming back. After the youngsters of Ellenburg fall under the ruthless control of a cult leader, they turn on their parents with gruesome results. (Screambox)
- Bloodsucking Freaks– Sardu, master of the Theatre of the Macabre, and his assistant Ralphus run a show in which, under the guise of ‘magic’, they torture and murder people in front of their audience. But what the punters see as a trick is actually real. (Screambox)
- Cannibal! The Musical– Heading through Colorado Territory in search of gold and women, Alferd Packer and his group of bemused companions find themselves lost, starving and musically inspired by the obstacles they confront along the way. (Screambox)
- Luther The Geek– A psychotic killer convicted of multiple murders is released on parole after spending twenty years in prison. His psychosis immediately takes over and he goes on a killing spree. (Screambox)
- Poultrygeist: Night Of The Chicken Dead– When the American Chicken Bunker, a military-themed fast food restaurant, builds its latest chain restaurant on the site of an ancient Native American burial ground, the displaced spirits take revenge on unsuspecting diners and transform them into chicken zombies! (Screambox) Editor’s Note: This is a Troma film; as such, one can expect some potentially offensive language and depictions that have aged poorly since its release.
August 17th
- Thanksgiving– After a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy, a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer terrorizes Plymouth, Massachusetts – the birthplace of the holiday. Picking off residents one by one, what begins as random revenge killings is soon revealed to be part of a larger, sinister holiday plan. (Hulu) Editor’s Note: Eli Roth is problematic for many reasons and this film is listed here for accuracy’s sake and not in support of him or his work.
