I apologize that I’m a little late this week with my highlights. I know I say that a lot, but between Fantastic Fest screeners, my local book club meeting, and a few other things, I’ve been swamped! That said, I did manage to get some great watches in for the 100 Horror Movies in 92 Days challenge! I can’t believe we have just over a month left! Where has the time gone? That’s enough of that, though. Let’s get to what you’re here for!
Here are my 100 Horror Movies in 92 Days 2025- Week 8 highlights:
- Dinner to Die For– Hannah, a culinary photographer, and her friend Evan share a passion for true crime content. When Evan suggests role-playing their own true crime scenario involving a killer meal and the girl next door, things take a twisted turn. This is easily one of my favorite films this year. You can read my impressions of it along with an interview I did with the director over on Daily Dead.
- Harawata Man– A low-budget film crew shooting in an abandoned factory accidentally awakens the Harawata Man, who hunts them down one by one in a wild bloodbath as they attempt to finish their film under the leadership of an equally maniacal producer. I’m not sure how I came across this film, but I’m glad I did. It feels like a mix of One Cut of the Dead and Tucker and Dale vs. Evil. It has a very brief 46-minute runtime and features one of my favorite Japanese actors, Shigeo Osako.
All You Need is Death– A young couple who collect rare folk ballads discover the dark side of love when they surreptitiously record and translate an ancient, taboo folk song from the deep, forgotten past. All You Need is Death is an interesting take on folk horror. I loved how it used music to tell the story.
- The Neon Demon– When aspiring model Jesse moves to Los Angeles, her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women who will take any means necessary to get what she has. Initially, I was just above mid on this, but after chatting about it on the Dumplings episode of Final Girl Feast, I’ve definitely warmed up on it.
As we’re getting closer to October, I hope you find something new for you to check out from my highlights! Be sure to follow along with my list on Letterboxd and join the challenge’s Discord server. We will continue our weekly watch parties on Fridays and Sundays during October, so be sure to head over there ASAP. What were your Week 8 favorites? What are your plans for Week 9? Let me know in the comments below! Happy watching!
