Can you believe we are already almost halfway through October? This year’s challenge has just flown by! I’ve had a few other deadlines, so my Week 10 highlights are a little late, but there were enough movies I was excited to share that I didn’t want to combine them with Week 11. So let’s get to it!
Here are my 100 Horror Movies in 92 Days 2025- Week 10 highlights:
- From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman’s Daughter– Narrowly escaping death, outlaw Johnny Madrid goes on the run with the hangman’s sensuous daughter Esmeralda by his side. I rewatched the first From Dusk till Dawn for Horrorverse’s vampire newsletter and decided to check out the other 2 films. I didn’t have high hopes, but was pleasantly surprised by how fun the 3rd entry was. I didn’t think I wanted a prequel to the original; however, this really worked well!
- The Woman in Black (1989)- When a friendless old widow dies in the seaside town of Crythin, a young solicitor is sent by his firm to settle the estate. The lawyer finds the townspeople reluctant to talk about or go near the woman’s dreary home, and no one will explain or even acknowledge the menacing woman in black he keeps seeing. I watched this one for another article I’m working on, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. It’s more subtle in its scares than the 2012 adaptation, but it’s worth checking out.
- V/H/S/Halloween– A collection of Halloween-themed videotapes unleashes a series of twisted, blood-soaked tales, turning trick-or-treat into a struggle for survival. I’d been excited for this one for quite some time due to the gastro horror segments. Those especially lived up to the hype for me!
- The Ghost of Kasane– A blind masseur visits a samurai to request the return of a loan. The samurai kills him in anger, then has his servant dump the body in the Kasane swamp. However, the ghost of the masseur returns to haunt the samurai, who kills his wife by mistake and then goes to the swamp and drowns himself. 20 years later, the masseur’s daughter unknowingly falls in love with the samurai’s son, who has been brought up to be a servant. After she is horribly disfigured in an accident, he plots to run away with another woman, but the path of their escape lies through the Kasane swamp. I’d had The Ghost of Kasane on my watchlist forever and finally got around to watching. It felt sort of like a Japanese horror version of an episode of Tales from the Crypt. Obviously, that’s a good thing!
- Count Dracula (1977)- Jonathan Harker visits the Count in Transylvania to help him with preparations to move to England. Harker becomes Dracula’s prisoner and discovers Dracula’s true nature. After Dracula makes his way to England, Harker becomes involved in an effort to track down and destroy the Count, eventually chasing the vampire back to his castle. This was another film I watched for the Horrorverse vampire newsletter. I chose it because it’s considered to be one of the closest adaptations of the novel. It’s got some fun 70s effects and is one of the only versions that mentions Paprikahendl.
We’re coming to the end of the challenge. With just a few weeks to go, I hope you’ll find something new to explore or add to your watchlist. Be sure to follow along with my list on Letterboxd and join the challenge’s Discord server. We have a few watch parties planned, so be sure to head over there ASAP to join us! What were your Week 10 favorites? What are your plans for Week 11? Let me know in the comments below! Happy watching!
