It’s time for another highlights post! I combined Weeks 5 and 6 because I didn’t get to watch a ton in those weeks. Not only that, but I struck out on more watches than I’d have liked. That said, there were some good ones! Shockingly, the Polonia Brothers didn’t make the cut this time! That’s enough talk though; you’re here for highlights!
Here are my 100 Horror Movies in 92 Days 2026- Week 5 & 6 picks:
The Bells
- Boorman and the Devil (2025)- Featuring commentary from surviving participants, as well as other filmmakers and critics, this documentary chronicles the career of director John Boorman and the tumultuous production of his film Exorcist II: The Heretic, exploring its critical and commercial failure, how it changed the industry, and the importance of risk-taking in art. I recently reviewed this for Movie Jawn, and it really made an impact on me. It’s more than a documentary about Exorcist 2: The Heretic; it’s about filmmaking and how Hollywood changed in that time period. I definitely recommend checking this one out!
- Faust (1926)- God and Satan wager on the soul of a learned and prayerful alchemist as part of their eternal war over Earth. Seeing Faust was actually a bucket list item for me. Not only did I get to see it on the big screen, but I saw it in a theater built in the late ’20s with a live quartet. I am constantly awestruck by silent horror films, and this was no exception.
- The Bells (1926)- A kindly but desperate Alsatian innkeeper named Mathias murders and robs a rich merchant staying at his inn, but the ghost of his victim will not let him rest. Meanwhile, a mysterious Mesmerist has come to town, claiming he has made many criminals confess their crimes. I plan to talk more about this in another article I’m working on, so I’ll just say that I thought this was an interesting bit of silent holiday horror.
Tumbbad
- Tumbbad (2018)- India, 1918. On the outskirts of Tumbbad, a cursed village where it always rains, Vinayak, along with his mother and his brother, takes care of a mysterious old woman who keeps the secret of an ancestral treasure that Vinayak becomes obsessed with. Tumbbad was on my watchlist for 7 years! I don’t even remember how I learned about it; that’s how long it had been! I’m so glad I finally got around to watching it! It would actually pair really well with Bramayugam. If you want an Indian film that’s a bit folk horror and a bit gastro horror, this one is for you!
- Big Baby (2025)- A nightmare involving a maniac killer in a baby mask serves as inspiration for horror screenwriter Adam Lewis’s new script. As more nightmares, visions, and real-life terror begin to challenge Adam’s sanity, he finds himself in a desperate struggle to control his writing, his reality, and who will be Big Baby’s next victim. I’ve been a fan of Spider One’s films since Allegoria was released. Big Baby is a fun movie full of great effects and nods to other horror films. It’s also a lot of fun if you’re familiar with the Burbank horror scene because you’ll recognize some familiar faces and locations!
