2026 may almost be over, but there are still a few film festivals left this year, including Fantastic Fest! Over the last few years, they’ve had some fun gastro offerings! Last year, Dinner to Die For was one of my favorite films of this year! So it stands to reason that this year, there will be plenty to whet your appetite! So let’s dive in!
- A Lobster Named Desire– Welcome to Cevicheria Afrodita, a seafood eatery for “sad, would-be lovers.” When her date rejects her favorite meal, Conchita takes her decapodic dish to go and winds up in a surreal situation involving humanoid crustaceans and intravaginal punk rock musical numbers. - A Pint of Bitter– A quiet pint in the pub turns into a surreal galactic nightmare, all witnessed through the bottom of an empty pint glass. (Part of the Shorts with Legs Block)
- Blood Feast– In the sleepy suburbs of Miami, seemingly normal Egyptian immigrant Fuad Ramses runs a successful catering business. He also murders young women and plans to use their body parts to revive the goddess Ishtar. The insane Ramses hypnotizes a socialite in order to land a job catering a party for her debutante daughter, Suzette Fremont, and turns the event into an evening of gruesome deaths, bloody dismemberment, and ritual sacrifice. (AGFA and Something Weird are honored to unleash the definitive presentation of this seminal splatterfest—newly restored in 4K from the original camera negative for the first time ever.)
- Flapjax– An over-eager fast-food manager is tasked with reviving a highly addictive menu item called “FLAPJAX” to save his fast-food company from bankruptcy. He pulls his estranged mother, a faded pop-star known as Popo, out of retirement to promote the item. However, he soon becomes ensnared by the company’s true intentions and his deeply rooted mommy issues.

Ogroff
Ogroff– Ogroff, an AWOL-solider-turned-hermit, lives in the French backwoods, and, still believing war to be raging, slaughters anyone who enters them. One day, a family’s car breaks down in Ogroff’s domain and a fight for their lives begins. (For the first time, Bleeding Skull presents a sparkling restoration of OGROFF from the newly discovered U-matic tape masters.)
Fantastic Fest is the largest genre film festival in the US, championing challenging and thought-provoking cinema while celebrating new voices and new stories from filmmakers around the world. It will be taking place from September 17th through the 24th. As of this posting, most badges are sold out, with the exception of the Second Half badge, but there are opportunities for single tickets. Per the Fantastic Fest site, “if you wish to attend a screening during the festival but do not have a badge, we often have walk-up tickets available prior to the start of the film. These tickets are not released to non-badge holders until 10 minutes prior to the start time to ensure all badge holders are able to access the screenings first. Walk-up tickets will be $15 each and can be purchased at the box office.”
