Can you believe we’re already halfway to Halloween?! May always sort of feels like a slow-release month for horror, so there aren’t a ton of gastro horror releases. If you’re looking for more gastro horror to watch, you can always check out the article I wrote in March for Macabre Daily about gastro horror films and shorts directed by women. All that said, FoundTV and Screambox are both releasing titles that appear to be newer to streaming, so that’s always exciting!
May 1st
- Gretel and Hansel (2020)- A long time ago in a distant fairy tale countryside, a
- young girl leads her little brother into a dark wood in desperate search of food and work, only to stumble upon a nexus of terrifying evil. (Prime Video)
- Hannibal (2001)- After having successfully eluded the authorities for years, Hannibal peacefully lives in Italy in disguise as an art scholar. Trouble strikes again when he’s discovered leaving a deserving few dead in the process. He returns to America to make contact with now disgraced Agent Clarice Starling, who is suffering the wrath of a malicious FBI rival as well as the media. (Tubi)
- The Mist (2007)- After a violent storm, a dense cloud of mist envelops a small Maine town, trapping David Drayton and his five-year-old son in a local grocery store with other local residents. They soon discover that the mist conceals deadly horrors that threaten their lives, and worse, their sanity. (Tubi)
- Slice (2018)- In a spooky small town, when a slew of pizza delivery boys are slain on the job, two daring survivors set out to catch the culprits behind the cryptic crime spree. (Pluto TV)
May 8th
- Cheat Meal (2024)- When his girlfriend, Ellie, gets involved with a Svengali-like health guru named Bo, Owen goes to confront her and discovers that there may be more to this health cult than he first expected. (Screambox Bloody Bites Shorts)
May 22nd
- Parched 2: Hangry (2019)- A social media influencer brings her friends to an Airbnb lake house to party. When an appetite stimulant is mistakenly dumped into the lake and the guests go for a dip, they emerge ravenous and insatiable. (FoundTV)
- Protein (2024)- A gym-obsessed serial killer murders and eats a local drug dealer for his protein, inadvertently sparking a brutal and bloodthirsty tit-for-tat turf war between rival drug gangs. (Screambox)
May 29th
- Vegan (2024)- A vegan social media influencer goes on a quest to document the search for her biological parents. Her search leads her to a defunct, secluded farm where she encounters The Farmer, and her worst nightmares become reality. (FoundTV)
