Happy August! This month is a little scant in terms of Gastro Horror releases. Fortunately, the seventh year of the 100 Horror Movies in 92 Days Challenge has started, so I will still have plenty to watch! That said, there are still a few new streaming options, so let’s get started!
August 1st
- Salt Along the Tongue– After her mother dies, Mattia moves in with her estranged aunt, her mother’s identical twin. From beyond the grave, Mattia’s mother possesses her daughter to protect her from a malevolent spirit, using food as a gateway. (Shudder)
- Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation– A group of teenagers get into a car crash in the Texas woods on prom night and then wander into an old farmhouse that is home to Leatherface and his insane family of cannibalistic psychopaths. (Plex)
August 3rd
- Five Nights at Freddy’s 2– One year since the supernatural nightmare at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, the stories about what transpired there have been twisted into a campy local legend, inspiring the town’s first-ever Fazfest. With the truth kept from her, Abby sneaks out to reconnect with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, setting into motion a terrifying series of events that will reveal dark secrets about the real origin of Freddy’s, and unleash a decades-hidden horror. (Netflix)
August 17th
- Thanksgiving– After a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy, a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer terrorizes Plymouth, Massachusetts – the birthplace of the holiday. Picking off residents one by one, what begins as random revenge killings is soon revealed to be part of a larger, sinister holiday plan. (HBO Max) Editor’s Note: Eli Roth is problematic for many reasons, and this film is listed here for accuracy’s sake and not in support of him or his work.

August 21st
- Buffet Infinity– In a series of cheap, locally produced TV commercials, small business owners rival the looming threat of Buffet Infinity. As Buffet Infinity endlessly expands and grows, engulfing everything in its path, a sinister conspiracy unfolds at the margins, and unfathomable powers begin to seep into the vulnerable community of Westridge County, Alberta. Read my full review over on Macabre Daily. (Shudder)
