Sarah Recommends: June 2026 Watches

Bunny Rabbit

Bunny Rabbit

As you all know, every June, I volunteer a week of my life to the Chattanooga Film Festival. As the community manager, I help run the Discord server and run a majority of the watch parties. This year, I watched 176 films and shorts! It was hard to choose my favorites (there were so many great offerings this year). Therefore, I stuck with horror and tried to go with a variety of features, shorts, and even one of the Red Eye offerings. Let’s get started!

June 2026 Recs

  • Blood & Guts (2025)- So I know I said I was keeping this list to horror movies. However, this documentary is about my favorite horror filmmaking family, The Adams Family. I’ve been a fan of their work since it first crossed my path. They are the kindest humans I’ve ever been fortunate enough to meet (virtually at least). This doc is an intimate look into their lives and their process for creating their art. It will leave you moved and inspired.
  • Bunny Rabbit (2025)- A cannibalism film landing on this list won’t come as a surprise to anyone. I was intrigued by the premise of Bunny Rabbit going in. What I didn’t expect was a film with a tone similar to Trouble Every Day or Bones and All. It was very much my cup of tea.
  • Horror Brunch!!! (1987)- This was shown during Zach Hall’s Red Eye block. Zach’s Red Eye picks are usually films and/or shorts that are fairly off the beaten path. With that in mind, you can imagine my surprise when a gastro horror that I haven’t heard of shows up! This was super silly and featured a lot of horror movie references! I would love to see this get a physical release somehow!
  • Deep Vessel (2026)- One thing I love about CFF is how the programming has a tendency to showcase films and shorts of all genres where music is a theme. This is one of those shorts. It’s a really fun horror comedy that also has a Norse god and really great music.

    The Mid-Night Driver

    The Mid-Night Driver

  • The Mid-Night Driver (2026)- This film was one of my biggest surprises during the festival. I didn’t know much about the film aside from its synopsis going in. It turned out to be a creepy autumnal delight that I hope to be able to add to my Halloween horror rotation. It felt like an adult version of a Goosebumps book or an episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark? and that’s not a bad thing!
  • Demonetize (2026)- I’m very hit or miss when it comes to horror comedies. Fortunately, Demonetize was a hit for me! It playfully pokes fun at influencer culture and delivers some of the best one-liners I’ve heard in a horror comedy in a long time. If I’m honest, I prefer this to films like Deadstream. It also gets bonus points for a Doug Jones appearance.
  • Scissors (2026)- Scissors was a fun queer horror slasher short that featured Jenna Kanell (Renfield, We’re So Dead) and Ethan Embry. Aside from great casting, the short was well-paced and hilarious. I would love to see this turned into a feature.

I wish I could mention every single film and short I loved, but we’d be here all day! Be sure to check my Letterboxd list and reviews to see the other films I enjoyed! These films are obviously still on the festival circuit (with the exception of Horror Brunch!!!) so be sure to add them to your watchlist so you can get updates on their release either in your area or on streaming.

Are you bummed to have missed out on CFF? Did you know you can join their Patreon and, at most levels, join us for a monthly secret film screening and virtual watch party? Head over to their Patreon and get yourself signed up! The watch parties are hosted on the 13th of every month. Can’t make it? No problem! You have 72 hours to watch the film on your own! Hope to see you there!
